A native Californian, I was baptized and raised a Methodist in a Christian family. My wife, Carol, and I have lived in Temecula and attended the Murrieta UMC since 1974. I have been a Methodist/United Methodist my entire life. Even though Mathematics was my major in college and led to a vocation in computers, music has been my avocation ever since I started taking piano lessons at age 7, singing in church choirs around age 8 and learning the trumpet at age 10. I have been involved in at least some sort of musical expression ever since. I was a member of various church choirs through my sophomore year in college. After transferring to Cal Poly at the beginning of my junior year, I continued to play trumpet in various college ensembles and I played piano in a Dixieland band. I also took a couple of conducting and other music classes and had an opportunity to conduct the symphonic band on several occasions. Also while away at college, I bought a guitar and learned enough to help be a music leader in the contemporary services at the San Luis Obispo United Methodist Church. After moving to Temecula, I knew that somehow I was going to be involved in the church and church music. This started out as sharing some of the songs I learned at college. Over time, this evolved into starting a church choir that practiced every other week. And, as they say, the rest is history. I am privileged and feel extremely blessed to be able to serve God and the church as Chancel Choir and music director. |
