Missions

Murrieta United Methodist is very involved in missions.  We offer many different ways that you can be involved in sharing God’s love locally, nationally, and globally.

  • Our own Murrieta UMC food pantry, which is open every Friday (except prior to Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas).  The number of people served has varied between 100 and almost  200 people (on special holiday weeks). We have reached out to other churches in the area to help with the critical need for more volunteers, food, and monetary donations. Through the generosity of this congregation, the families each received an extra bag of food at Thanksgiving.
  • We offer continued monetary support to the youth who go to Sierra Service Project.
  • We contribute to the St. Luke’s Fund which helps local families in need in our community
  • Along with the Sunday school, we sponsored a pull tab drive to raise money for a Ronald McDonald House.
  • We have offered monetary and spiritual support for the Inland Valley Chapter of Habitat for Humanity Inland.  Their “Re-Store” in Temecula is doing well.
  • We support the United Methodist Guatemala Project by hosting a sale of native goods.
  • We donated money and warm socks to a US Veterans group in Riverside.
  • Joseph and Lydia Templeton are United Methodist Missionaries in Inner City Los Angeles.   We gave $2500 this year-to support their work with the Children, Youth and Family Collaborative.  Lydia came and spoke at our church in October.
  • We are also supporting David Elmore a missionary in Nome, Alaska.
  • Mike and Becky Scott along with their children Christy-15, Jenny-13, Kenneth-8, Laura-6 are Missionaries in Cameroon, Africa.  They are assisting the local people to come up with a written language and translate the Bible into the Oroko language.  We support them through the World Team organization.
  • Heifer Project International has been involved in alleviating world hunger. This year we held a root beer float sale and raised money for animals to be given to  needy families in a third world country.
  • We held a Bazaar and Rummage Sale in October.  The money netted from the Bazaar will go toward our many mission projects including support for our Katrina project. ( members of our congregation who will be helping with rebuilding in Mississippi.)
  • We support Casa Amparo , an orphanage located in Chaclacayo, Peru (near Lima).
  • We gave money to Nuevo Pacto United Methodist Church in Tijuana, Mexico to help with their growing ministry.
  • The Alternative Christmas Faire will be held on December 13.  Gift Cards will be available from Heifer Project, and Habitat for Humanity.  People will be able to make a donation in a friend or relative’s name. Cards and other items will be available to purchase to help support the Detsky Dom orphanage in Russia.
  • We collected flood buckets for use by those affected by hurricanes, earthquakes, and other disasters.
  • We continue to support the United Methodist Bible group in Vladivostok, Russia along with the ongoing work projects at the orphanage there. We support pastor Sveta Tsoy in her ministry in Komsomolsk-on-Amur.
